Usage profiles

Access through: Cross-functional objects > Usage profiles

Usage profiles are among the cross-functional objects in Snow Optimizer for SAP® Software. With usage profiles, you can compare the usage of systems against a list of allowed objects.

Description

Usage profiles represent license type definitions of the SAP price and conditions list in Snow Optimizer for SAP® Software. They include all usage-relevant objects that a user that has been assigned a specific license type is allowed to use. These objects can be of the following types:

  • Transactions (T)

  • Reports (R)

  • Jobs (J)

  • Web services (W)

  • Change document objects (O)

  • BusinessObjects types (B)

A usage profile has included objects and excluded objects. Both are allowed to be used by the usage profile, but only included objects are counted. Excluded objects are, for example, most of the system transactions and system reports like logon, main menu, file exports, or RFC connections. Excluded objects are not tied to a license type.

There are single usage profiles and composite usage profiles. Single usage profiles are building blocks for composite usage profiles.

In Snow Optimizer for SAP® Software, you can use usage profiles in condition types of local rules that are based on usage profiles and in the following reports:

Best practice

Following are some tips on how to get the most out of usage profiles in Snow Optimizer for SAP® Software:

  • When you create usage profiles, start from the smallest license type in your environment like, for example, ESS.

  • Use a naming pattern to identify the usage profiles. For example, SP for single usage profile and the license type ESS results in SP_ESS.

  • You can use wildcards (*) to specify objects.

  • Because most excluded objects are excluded for every license type, you can create one single usage profile for excluded objects and include this single usage profile in composite usage profiles.

  • The CPU consumption profile analysis report can help you to improve usage profiles. Execute this report with the Matching CPU times in % option and select the data sources that are relevant for system measurement. In the report results, select Consumption details. The table shows which objects are included or excluded in the selected usage profile. Based on this, you can decide whether objects should be included, excluded, or deleted from the usage profile.
