Rules

Access through: Rules

With the Rules feature in Snow Optimizer for SAP® Software, you can define rules to identify the licensing status of your system environment and derive useful changes in the user master data. Defining rules leads you to the most favorable license type or the discovery of users that are not relevant for licensing. For example, you can use the rule function to identify users that haven't logged in for 90 days with the Last logon user condition type and then invalidate the licenses with the Deactivate or activate user action type of those users.

Description

The Rules feature in Snow Optimizer for SAP® Software consists of definitions and reports.

In the definitions, there are local rules, global rules, and rule sets. Local rules affect the data of a single system and contain if-then conditions. Global rules use the data of all users and apply it to the consolidated results of local rules. Rule sets then define which local rules and which global rules are applied and in what order.

To apply a defined rule set, there is an execution report. After executing rule sets, you can show the results of a specific rule set execution or the historical trend of user counts per license type based on rule set executions.

Best practice

To get the most out of the Rules feature in Snow Optimizer for SAP® Software, perform the following steps:

  • Define the licensing scenario that you want to investigate.

  • Create the necessary local rules and global rules.

  • Create the corresponding rule set.

  • Execute the rule set.

  • Show the results of the rule set execution.

  • Accept the optimization recommendations of Snow Optimizer for SAP® Software and record changes in a change list.
